Bohemian Ovens - The Oven
Mike investigated the building of a
brick oven but discovered they were expensive and
complicated to build if you make them with a standard
arch.
With the help of Mike's brother Bill, a heating and
ventillating engineer, they built a much cheaper oven
with a cantilever top, rather than a conventional arch.
The oven is free standing containing 2128 fire bricks. It
is held together with a metal frame at either end and one
half inch threaded rods.
The
oven weighs nearly 15,000 pounds and stands 10 inches off
the floor on 10 legs.
The oven is 6 feet high, 45 inches wide and 10 feet 6
inches long.
It's fired on both ends with wood! It can hold 40 loaves
of bread at a time.
